π Introduction
A seminarian once asked an old priest, “Father, why does everyone in the parish seem to like you?” The priest chuckled and said, “Because I never preach longer than the parking meter allows!”
Well, I promise not to out-preach your parking meter either!
π The Word of God
Today’s Gospel is a sobering reminder from Jesus: “If the world hates you, know that it hated me before you.” (John 15:18) These words may unsettle us. We love being liked and affirmed. But Jesus reminds His disciples—and us—that following Him will sometimes make us misunderstood, excluded, or even disliked.
The world often celebrates power, profit, and popularity. But Christ calls us to humility, sacrifice, and truth. And that will sometimes make us stand apart.
In Acts, we see Paul and Timothy faithfully setting out on a mission, not knowing the outcome. They are led by the Spirit to Macedonia—a place of uncertainty, but also new beginnings. They are not seeking comfort, but obedience.
✝️ Eucharist
At the altar, we celebrate the One who was rejected, crucified—and rose again. In receiving Christ, we also receive strength to carry our crosses, face opposition, and still remain joyful and hopeful.
❓ Question for Reflection
Am I afraid of being unpopular because of my faith?
Have I made peace with the cost of discipleship?
π§ Daily Practical Application
Be kind even when kindness isn’t returned.
Speak truth, even when it costs you something.
Say a word of hope to someone who feels like giving up.
Today, walk with quiet courage—knowing that even if the world misunderstands you, God sees you.
π ️ For Those Who Encounter Difficulties
To every student, worker, parent, or elder who feels left out, ignored, or pressured to blend in: know that you are not alone. You belong to Christ. Your life is a signpost of God’s goodness.
π What Can I Do During the Jubilee Year?
- Be bold in sharing your faith.
- Start small: invite someone to Mass, join a prayer group, or help a young person discern their gifts.
- Live your faith out loud—with joy, not arrogance.
πΏπ¦ South African Touch
In South Africa, we know the pain of being judged or left out—because of race, class, or language. But we also know the power of standing for justice and truth. Let our Catholic faith shape a society where love is louder than hate.
π‘ Inspiration Quote
"We are not called to blend in with the world, but to light it up with Christ."
π️ Conclusion and Short Prayer
Let’s never be discouraged when following Christ becomes tough. If the world rejects us, let it be because it sees Christ in us.
π Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
when I feel rejected, remind me that You were rejected first.
When I feel afraid, strengthen me with Your Spirit.
Use my life to bear witness to Your love.
Make me a pilgrim of hope today.
Amen.
