Short Homily for Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Easter
Theme: “The Voice That Brings Life”
Readings: Acts 11:19–26 | Psalm 87:1b–3, 4–5, 6–7 | John 10:22–30
๐ The Word of God
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me.” But the people questioning Him refuse to believe. Why? Because belief is not just about facts — it's about relationship. It’s about trust.
In Acts, the early Christians spread the Good News even after persecution, and the Church grows in Antioch. These were ordinary people empowered by the Spirit — not experts, just believers. The name Christian was first used here, not as a label, but as a witness: people who live and act like Christ.
Psalm 87 reminds us that no matter where we come from — whether Marry Me or Jerusalem, Limpopo or Lebanon — we are born anew in God’s city. We belong to Him.
✨ Eucharist
Here at the altar, the voice of the Shepherd becomes flesh. He feeds His sheep not with mere words, but with His very Body and Blood. The Eucharist is where we renew our listening and belonging.
❓ Question for Reflection
Whose voice shapes my day — the voice of the Shepherd or the noise of the world?
๐งบ Daily Practical Application
Take time today — even if only 3 minutes — to be still and say, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.” You might hear something you’ve been longing for.
๐ ️ For Those Who Encounter Difficulties
If you feel unheard or rejected — like the believers scattered from Jerusalem — remember: God often builds the strongest faith in the most unlikely places. Your silence is not abandonment. God is still speaking.
๐ What Can I Do During the Jubilee Year?
- Use this Holy Year to become a listener.
- Be slow to speak and quick to pray.
- Visit the Blessed Sacrament or grotto for a mini pilgrimage.
- Share your story with someone who needs hope.
- Be a living witness — like the early Church in Antioch.
๐ South African Touch
In Mzansi, we love voices — in music, in protests, in braai conversations. But the most powerful voice is the one that stills our fears and says: “You are mine.” That’s the voice of Jesus.
๐ฌ Inspiration Quote
"The Shepherd’s voice doesn’t always shout — sometimes it whispers through love, pain, or silence. But it always calls us home."
๐งญ Conclusion
We are Pilgrims of Hope, walking through noise and confusion, following the voice of life. The Good Shepherd knows the way — and He knows your name.
๐ Short Prayer
Jesus, my Shepherd,
In a world of many voices, help me hear Yours.
Lead me today, protect me from harm,
and strengthen me to follow You with courage.
May my life echo Your voice to others.
Amen.
