Homily - Thursday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
,2 Corinthians 3:15–4:1, 3–6 and Matthew 5:20–26:
π Theme: “Let the Light of Christ Heal Your Relationships”
π Introduction
Today’s Word reminds us that the light of Christ must shine not only in the church building but also in our hearts, our families, and our relationships. God’s glory is not just for display — it is for transformation.
π Story
There’s a story of a man who used to carry a torch in broad daylight. When asked why, he said: “I’m looking for people who are honest and kind.” One child replied, “Why not just take off your sunglasses?”
But sometimes we hide the light of Christ behind pride, grudges, and unresolved anger. We cannot be salt and light if we’re carrying old baggage.
π The Word of God
In 2 Corinthians, St. Paul speaks of the veil that covers the hearts of people — a spiritual blindness that can only be removed through Christ. But when the veil is lifted, the light of the knowledge of God’s glory shines in our hearts.
In Matthew 5, Jesus goes beyond the commandment “You shall not kill.” He shows us that bitterness, insults, and grudges are equally dangerous. He urges us to reconcile before offering anything at the altar — because worship without love is empty.
He says, “Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way.” The longer we carry anger, the heavier it becomes. Forgiveness frees both the giver and the receiver.
✝️ The Eucharist
As we approach the table of the Lord, let us come with open hearts. The Eucharist is not only a sacred meal — it is a call to unity. Christ gave His Body so that we could become one body, not many broken pieces.
π Question for Reflection
Is there someone I need to forgive — or someone who needs my apology — before I offer myself at the altar?
π§ Daily Practical Application
Today, reach out to someone you may have distanced yourself from — even if it’s just in prayer or silence. Let the Spirit soften your heart. Peace is more important than being right.
π§️ For Those Who Encounter Difficulties
If you are struggling with deep wounds, betrayal, or disappointment — take heart. Jesus doesn’t just tell us to forgive; He empowers us to do it. Healing takes time, but it begins with one decision — to let the light in.
✨ What Can I Do During the Jubilee Year?
This Jubilee is a time for mending what is broken — relationships, families, parishes. Become a minister of reconciliation. Help someone return to Church. Rebuild trust where it's been lost.
π️ Inspiration – Pilgrims of Hope
As Pilgrims of Hope, we walk not in darkness but in light. Even when reconciliation feels impossible, God is still at work, gently removing the veil.
πΏπ¦ South African Touch
In South Africa, we carry the wounds of division, but also the spirit of Ubuntu — “I am because we are.” In our homes, churches, and communities, let’s choose peace over pride. Reconciliation is not weakness; it’s a revolutionary act of hope.
π Inspirational Quote
“Forgiveness doesn’t change the past, but it releases the future.”
π Conclusion
Beloved, don’t let anger or hurt rob you of God’s light. Reconciliation may be hard — but it’s the only road to peace. May your heart become a place where the glory of God shines freely.
π Short Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Remove every veil from my heart.
Where there is anger, sow peace.
Where there is pride, sow humility.
In this Jubilee Year, make me a builder of bridges,
a bearer of light, and a pilgrim of hope.
Amen.
