Homily – Wednesday (not Monday) of the 15th Week in Ordinary Time (Cycle II)

Theme: “God Meets Us Where We Are, But Never Leaves Us There”

Introduction – A Strange Sight in the Wilderness

Moses wasn’t looking for God when he saw the bush that burned but wasn’t consumed.
He was simply doing his job—tending sheep in the wilderness.

But that ordinary day turned into a divine encounter.

God speaks from the fire and calls Moses by name.
And like many of us, Moses’ first response to God’s call is fear and self-doubt.

πŸ”₯ 1. First Reading – Exodus 3:1–6, 9–12

God says:

“I have seen the affliction of My people… I have heard their cry… I know their suffering.”

This is a God who sees, hears, knows, and comes down to rescue.

Then He says something even more surprising:

“So now I am sending you, Moses.”

God sends ordinary people—flawed, unsure, reluctant—
and promises:

“I will be with you.”

πŸ™ 2. Psalm 103 – God Is Kind and Merciful

The psalm reminds us that God:

  • Forgives

  • Heals

  • Redeems

  • Crowns us with compassion

Moses didn’t feel qualified—but God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.

πŸ‘ΆπŸ½ 3. Gospel – Matthew 11:25–27: The Father Reveals Himself to the Lowly

Jesus gives thanks to the Father for revealing divine wisdom not to the proud or powerful, but to the little ones—the humble, the simple, the teachable.

God hides from arrogance, but He draws close to the heart that is open.

Moses wasn’t perfect. But he was open enough to say “Here I am.”

πŸ”— Bringing It All Together

  • God meets us in the ordinary and calls us by name.

  • He hears the cries of the suffering and sends us to respond.

  • He doesn’t require us to be strong or wise—just available.

“I will be with you,” God says.

That is all we truly need.

πŸ’¬ Quote for Reflection

“God does not call the equipped. He equips the called.”
– Anonymous

Life Application

  • Am I open to seeing God in my daily routines?

  • Do I listen when He calls me through unexpected people or events?

  • Can I say, “Here I am, Lord”—even if I feel unqualified?

πŸ”š Conclusion – From Fear to Mission

Moses was afraid.
But his willingness to listen turned fear into a mission that changed history.

Today, God may not speak through a burning bush.
But He is still speaking.
Are we listening?

πŸ™ Prayer for the Day

“Here I Am, Lord”

Lord God,
You are the One who sees, who hears, and who knows my story.
Even when I’m not looking for You,
You come close—often in unexpected places.

Like Moses, I don’t always feel ready.
I see my flaws, my fears, and my limits.
But today, I offer what I have—my heart, my voice, my hands.

Speak to me in the middle of my daily routine.
Set a fire in my spirit that draws me closer to You.
Give me courage to say: “Here I am.”

Walk with me as You promised.
Help me carry Your message of hope,
especially to those who feel forgotten or oppressed.

Let me be one of the “little ones”
who listens, learns, and loves.

Amen.
