Homily - Reflection - Food for thought
Monday of the Fourth Week of Lent
First Reading: Isaiah 65:17–21
Gospel: John 4:43–54
Introduction
My friend, today the Word of God invites us to believe in new beginnings.
Life sometimes feels heavy. We look at the news, our families, our communities, and sometimes it seems as if nothing is changing. But God speaks a powerful promise through the prophet Isaiah:
“Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth.”
God is a God of renewal. Even when things seem broken, God is quietly preparing something new.
Life Story
A little boy once planted a seed in the garden. Every ten minutes he ran back to check if the plant had grown.
After a few hours he complained to his father:
“This seed is not working!”
The father laughed and said:
“My son, plants do not grow faster because you keep checking them.”
Sometimes we are like that with God.
We pray today and expect the miracle tomorrow morning.
But God's work often grows quietly and patiently.
The Word
In the Gospel, a royal official approaches Jesus with a desperate request. His son is very sick and close to death.
The man travels a long distance just to find Jesus. He begs Him to come and heal the boy.
Instead of going with him, Jesus simply says:
“Go; your son will live.” (John 4:50)
The remarkable part is what happens next. The man believes the word of Jesus and starts walking home.
He does not argue.
He does not demand proof.
He simply trusts.
Later his servants meet him with the news that the boy recovered at the exact hour Jesus spoke the words.
The miracle began the moment the man trusted Jesus’ word.
In the first reading, Isaiah speaks of God's promise to create a world filled with joy, peace, and life. Both readings remind us that God is always creating something new, even when we cannot see it yet.
Three Practical Lessons for Today
1. Trust God's word even before you see results
The official believed before the miracle happened.
Faith means trusting God even when the outcome is not yet visible.
2. Bring your worries to Jesus
The father did not hide his pain. He went directly to Jesus.
Whatever burdens you today—health, family, finances—bring them honestly to the Lord.
3. God is always creating new beginnings
Isaiah reminds us that God is making a new heaven and a new earth.
Even when life seems stuck, God is working behind the scenes to bring renewal and hope.
Inspirational Quote
“Faith is trusting that God is already working, even when we cannot yet see the result.”
Conclusion
Today we learn from a worried father who chose to trust Jesus.
He walked home believing the word he heard—and along the way he discovered that the miracle had already begun.
My friend, God may already be working in your life in ways you cannot yet see.
Do not lose hope.
God is the God of new beginnings.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Sometimes we become impatient and discouraged.
Teach us to trust Your word like the royal official did.
Give us faith to believe even before we see the miracle.
Renew our hope during this Lenten journey.
Help us trust that You are always creating something new in our lives.
We place our families, our struggles, and our future in Your loving hands.
Amen. ✝️
