Second Week of Lent
First Reading: Isaiah 1:10, 16–20
Gospel: Matthew 23:1–12

Introduction

My dear friend,

Today’s Word is direct. It is not soft. It is not decorative.

God is not impressed by appearances.
He is interested in your heart.

Lent is not about looking holy — it is about becoming honest.

And today, the Lord speaks to you personally.

Life Story

A little boy was told by his mother, “Sit down!”

He refused.

After a stern look, he finally sat — but muttered quietly,
“I may be sitting on the outside, but I’m standing on the inside.”

We laugh because we understand.

It is possible to look obedient on the outside…
but resist on the inside.

That is exactly what today’s readings challenge.

The Word

Isaiah 1:10, 16–20

God speaks strongly through the prophet:

“Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean.
Remove your evil deeds…
Learn to do good; seek justice.”

The people were offering sacrifices, attending worship — but living unjustly.

God was not rejecting worship.
He was rejecting hypocrisy.

True worship is not what you sing on Sunday.
It is how you live on Monday.

Then comes a beautiful promise:

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”

God corrects — but He also restores.

He rebukes — but He invites.

Matthew 23:1–12

Jesus warns about the scribes and Pharisees.

They loved titles.
They loved recognition.
They loved being seen as important.

But their hearts were far from humility.

Jesus says something powerful:

“The greatest among you must be your servant.”

In God’s Kingdom, greatness is not about status.
It is about service.

It is not about being noticed.
It is about being faithful.

Three Practical Lessons for Your Day

1. Align Your Inside and Outside

Ask yourself honestly:
“Is my heart matching my behaviour?”

If you pray — let your life reflect it.
If you speak kindly — mean it.

Integrity brings peace.

2. Choose Humble Service

Today, do one act of kindness quietly.

Not for praise.
Not for attention.

Just for love.

God sees what others don’t.

3. Let God Wash You

Do not stay stuck in guilt.

If you have failed, come to Him.

God says:
“Come now… though your sins are scarlet, they shall be white.”

You are not beyond renewal.

Inspirational Quote

“God is not looking for a perfect image — He is shaping a truthful heart.”

Conclusion

My friend,

Lent strips away the mask.

It reminds you that titles do not impress God.
Appearances do not move Him.

A humble, willing, honest heart — that is what He desires.

You do not need to pretend before God.

Come as you are.
Let Him cleanse you.
Then go and serve quietly.

That is true greatness.

Prayer

Lord my God,

You see my heart.
You know where I pretend.
You know where I resist on the inside.

Wash me clean.
Remove pride from me.
Teach me to seek justice and do good.

Make me humble in spirit.
Help me to serve without needing recognition.
Align my inside and my outside.

This Lent, purify my heart
and shape me into a person of quiet faithfulness.

I trust Your mercy.
I accept Your correction.
